How it works - Silver ion technology

Veraco products use silver ion technology to kill germs and bacteria 24/7. Silver ion antimicrobial technology is used in a vast range of products due to its versatility. It prevents the spread of microorganisms and growth using four processes:

  1. Cell Membrane Damage - Without its membrane intact and strong, the nutrients in the cell leak out, eventually causing the cell to die.

  2. Protein Damage - Protein is an essential element for biological systems to live. Silver ions cause a failure of the cell’s crucial functions, like energy production, by damaging the microorganism’s protein. This damage to the cell’s protein means that it cannot replicate and grow.

  3. DNA Interference - The cell can not replicate itself and spread if its DNA structure is disrupted. Silver ion technology causes this to happen.

  4. Oxidative Damage - The presence of the silver ions in the cell cause increased levels of reactive oxygen, which damages the microbe’s internal system.
Why are Veraco products important?

Surface hygiene is imperative.

On the surfaces we constantly touch, bacteria – including E. Coli and MRSA – can survive for several months.

Bacteria grows very quickly and if given the time will also rapidly multiply and mature into what is called a BioFilm.

BioFilms can be 1,000 X more resistant to disinfectants than bacteria found outside of biofilms.

General cleaning only removes germs for a short period, it's impossible to clean surfaces in-between every single user and requires repeated efforts to maximise surface hygiene. The silver Ion technology used in Veraco products works 24/7 when cleaning doesn’t. This prevents the formation of biofilms.

Have you got any certification/data sheets that prove this?

Yes (available upon request). All Veraco products are tested to ISO standards. Specifically to ISO 21702 2019 & ISO 22196.  Effective against HCoV 229E by up to 99.87% & SARS-CoV-2 76%, Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, MRSA and P.aeruginosa by up to 99.99%.

Will the products start working straight away?

Yes, they do. With all ISO testing protocols, efficacy levels are measured at intervals after contact time with bacteria. Common tests are measured from a contact time of 60 mins which measures how much log reduction (Reduction of Bacteria) in percentage after 60 mins. However, Veraco products technology is measured after just 15 minutes as well as 60 mins giving a much clear indication of its efficacy level and how quickly it begins to work. With only 15 minutes ISO results show a reduction in microbial growth by 99.99% of bacteria and 94.99% of HCoV229E (Human Coronavirus Strain).

Do they work outside?

Yes. they are all weather-resistant.

Will this damage the door/handle?

This is designed to stay on for the life expectancy of the product. To ensure this is the case the products use self-adhesive tape to ensure it stays on safely and securely. However, please ensure that the surface you are applying the products on is not susceptible to damage from the removal of any adhesive.

When will I know the product needs replacing?

There’s no ‘indicator’ that informs you when they need to be replaced. Veraco's recommendation is to replace it no later than 12 months to ensure a high level of efficacy.

Can I stop cleaning?

No, this is not meant to replace cleaning but it can reduce excessive cleaning. Veraco develops products that make touchpoints more hygienic and safer to use but it is still recommended to follow your cleaning regime. These products work hand-in-hand with regular cleaning. In between cleaning intervals, Bacteria is able to multiply and spread dangerous pathogens to other people. Veraco products work 24/7 to stop bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses from reproducing. They continue to work when cleaning isn’t in operation.

How often do they need to be cleaned?

It's important to note that this isn’t a total replacement for cleaning but you can reduce excessive cleaning cycles and in doing so it will save you money!

How do you clean the products?

Regular cleaning is recommended to keep the products in good working condition. They are compatible with any cleaning protocols and resistant to most chemical agents, alcohol, diluted acids or oils. The product can be cleaned/disinfected by all conventional cleaning methods, using non-abrasive accessories, cleaning products, detergents or products currently used in healthcare environments. Use warm water with a soft detergent and cotton cloth.

Does it clean your hands?

No, it does not clean your hands-on touch but it does work to neutralise germs on touch and stop the spread of germs from touching surfaces.

How easy are they to install?

All Veraco products have a self-adhesive backing for easy installation. This enables them to stick to any surface. Just peel, stick and you’re ready to go! No need for an installation team or company. Under 1 minute install.

Can it cause skin irritation?

No. We can supply test data on this if required.

Do you have any abrasion tests?

Yes, we can supply data if required.

Who also has Veraco products installed?

Some of the most notable companies include the following; CBRE, RICOH, Premiership football club Wolves FC, NHS, Unilever, Muller, Deutsche Bank, London Met Uni, COS, Williams F1.

Can I cut the products?

With some of them, you can but Veraco doesn't recommend it.
