The HD5 hand dryer has been a mainstay of the UK hand dryer market for many years. The HD5 hand dryer has been particularly favoured in schools and leisure centres looking for both hand and face drying. We retain the HD5 in our range as it still has a place in the market despite the rise of more energy efficient, high velocity hand dryers.
Hand dryer for schools and leisure centres
The HD5 hand dryer remains a good option for schools tand leisure centres in changing room areas that require hand and face drying. The mechanism for adjusting from hand to face drying is strong and cannot be mis-used the way that a rotating nozzle can be. If a hand and face hand dryer has been specified consider this or the 5500 series from Warner Howard.
How fast drying is the HD5 hand dryer?
The manufacturer states a dry time of 27 seconds. We have not tested this product under independent conditions however rudimentary testing shows that under normal conditions the product delivers a 25-35 second dry time. The airflow is good and the air temperature is at a tolerable level throughout.
How energy efficient is the HD5 hand dryer?
Energy efficiency is measured by dividing the rated power of the hand dryer by the dry time. If we use an average of 30 seconds as the dry time and take the rated power at 2.4kw then the HD5 is consuming approximately 20 watts per dry. All though there are dryers that consume more electricity than this.
- energy consumption per dry - 20 watts
- cost per dry 0.24p or 1000 dries for £2.40
Carbon emissions (per 1000 dries)
- Average high speed hand dryer = 1- 4.1kg/Co2
- Paper towels = 28kg/Co2
- HD5 warm air hand dryer = 10.8kg/Co2
Paper towels are based on 15.5gms/Co2 per dry and hand dryers are based on Carbon Trusts measurement of 1 kw = 0.54 kg/Co2
Why do we include the HD5 on Intelligent Hand Dryers?
The Answer is that the HD5 does still have a purpose, in particular for Leisure Centres who have problems with hair dryers being vandalised and therefore need an alternative face dryer. There also remains a replacement market for the Airstream models due to their popularity in the past. However we do recommend that you check out the cost comparison before repurchasing, there are many models on the market now that will reduce your running costs and environmental impact significantly, so 9 times out of 10 it will be worth replacing all the AirStream HD5 on your premises.
This HD5 hand dryer has the matching specification to the HD5 Airstream brand now PHS, Newlec NL9AHD and Wandsworth Bunny HD5/T.
Hand Dryer highly recommended for unattended school toilets and leisure centres due to high level of safety.
